The combination of stress, alcohol consumption, smoking, lack of physical exercise, and an unbalanced diet all contribute to poor health. To help men maintain peak physical and mental performance, the following simple steps will help.

Eat your greens
Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. A healthy diet can help maintain a healthy heart and circulation, and keep your bodyweight within the normal range for your height. Optimal intake of certain nutrients such as zinc are also important to help maintain reproductive health.

Fat buster
A healthy diet means cutting back on the amount of fat you eat. Changing your diet to eat less fat does not have to be drastic or unpleasant, nor does it mean that you can never have your favourite treats ever again. More often, it simply involves cutting down on obvious fats, like butter, oil and margarine, and switching to lower fat versions of foods like meat, milk, cheese and cakes.

Beer monster
Try to drink not more than 3 alcoholic drinks a day (one drink being a half pint of beer, a glass of wine or a measure of spirits). Too much alcohol can lead to high blood pressure and lower levels of nutrients vital for health.

Kick the habit
Cut down on smoking or, ideally, give up altogether. Nicotine can rob the body of nutrients and greatly increase the risk of many health problems. There is plenty of advice available to help you quit, but remember that if you smoke you must actually want to give up cigarettes. No one can give up smoking for you.

Chill out
Relax! Stress can have a negative impact on your energy levels. Laughing, reading a book or having a long soak in a hot bath are all excellent ways to help manage stress.

Sleeping beauty
Make sure you get enough sleep - for most people, an average of 8 hours per night. A lack of sleep can leave you feeling fatigued and make it difficult to concentrate.
