There are some simple steps to take to help protect your skin which are easily incorporated into your daily routine.

1. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day. It provides your skin with the necessary moisture it requires and also clears the system of all toxins and keeps the blood free from impurities. Water also protects the skin against pimples. In case of insufficient intake of water, the body will draw on all its water reservoirs, including those of the skin, resulting in dehydration of the skin.

2. Exercise to reduce breakouts and fight the signs of ageing. It increases circulation and the delivery of nutrients to skin cells, eliminating potentially damaging toxins. It also provides optimum conditions for making collagen, the support fibers that help keep wrinkles and lines at bay.

4. Eat foods rich in vitamin E, such as almonds, kiwi fruits and mangoes, these help fight the free radicals found in air pollution and radiation.

5. Exfoliate. The old skin on your face tends to sag and hold wrinkles but your new baby skin underneath will have a thickened tautness and smoothness you thought you never had.

6. Wear a good moisturiser with an SPF every day. Ultraviolet light - the invisible but intense rays of the sun - damages your skin, causing deep wrinkles, dry, rough skin, liver spots, and more serious disorders, such as noncancerous (benign) and cancerous (malignant) skin tumours.

7. Avoid alcohol. It dehydrates your body and your skin, causing redness of the skin and blotchiness. It can also permanently enlarge the peripheral vessels of the skin.

8. Don't smoke and avoid smoky atmospheres as it can accelerate the normal ageing process of your skin, contributing to wrinkles. In addition, the repetitive facial expressions you make when smoking - such as pursing your lips when inhaling and squinting your eyes to keep out smoke - may contribute to wrinkles.

9. Try and get 8 hours of sleep per night to improve the texture and the luminosity of your skin. During the night the skin is restored from the harmful effects of daily stress and when we do not get the required sleep our skin suffers.
